By Rev. Roger Mills, Jr., AHERN Publisher / September 2022

On a pleasant Saturday afternoon in Knoxville, Tennessee, the officers and members of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, along with area pastors and ministers, the pastor-elect’s family, and friends from Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, and Chicago gathered to participate and witness the installation of Rev. Vincent M. Jones, Jr.

From October 2021 to August 2022, Rev. Jones held the title Senior Pastor-Elect, and on this day, Saturday, August 13, 2022, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church gathered to remove the title Pastor-Elect to Senior Pastor.

The installation service and ceremony were historic and very spiritual, as the master of the ceremony was Knoxville Historian, Mr. Robert Booker.

Mr. Booker came to the podium and asked the congregation to stand to receive the Pastor-Elect Rev. Vincent Jones, Jr., First-Lady-Elect Alicia Jones, and their children, Camille and Vincent III.

Once the honorees enter, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church opened the worship service with a “Praise Medley”. The welcome was given by Sister Robin Rhines followed by Rev. Michael McNair, Sr., Pastor of First AME Zion Church, Knoxville reading the Old Testament scripture “Psalms 1”, Rev. Sam Brown, Pastor of Logan Temple AME Zion Church, Knoxville reading the New Testament scripture “Hebrews 13: 17-25” NLT, and Reverend Dr. Lacy Alford, Associate Pastor at Wheat Street Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA, praying the afternoon prayer.

The second installation song by Tabernacle was “My Mind Is Made Up”.

Rev. Jones’s family presented him with a painting “Plow By Day, Plow By Night”, which is an updated version of the one his dad has, Rev. Jones, Sr., both painted by Rev. Allen Jones of Tabernacle.

The third installation song by Tabernacle was “I Know Something About God’s Grace”.

The Installation Ceremony

The charge to the church was given by Reverend Dr. Harold Middlebrook, Sr., former Tennessee Baptist M&E Convention President; Mrs. Mary Patton gave the charge to her first grandchild, the First Lady, Alicia Jones, in her remarks she told her granddaughter, “don’t no one define you, you write your own story”; and Reverend Dr. Vincent Jones, Sr., gave the charge to his son, Pastor-Elect, Rev. Vincent Jones, Jr.

Before the installation message, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church Choir brought the congregation to their feet with the sermonic selection “You Been Good To Me”.

The installation message, “Don’t Forget To Take A Nap” from Mark 4:37-38 RSV, was delivered by Rev. Reginald Wayne Sharpe, Jr., Senior Pastor of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Chicago, Ill.

Rev. Richard Brown, Sr., Pastor of Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, Knoxville prayed the installation prayer, officially installing Rev. Jones as the Senior Pastor of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

Following the message the installed Pastor of Tabernacle, Rev. Jones escorted the First Lady, Alicia Jones to the pulpit for remarks and the benediction.

The afternoon concluded with a fellowship meal.
