Rev. Herman M. Cody, Former Executive Pastor of Greenforest Community Baptist Church and Community Leader, Passes at Age 74

STOCKBRIDGE, GA-  Rev. Herman Cody, a native of Morristown, Tennessee, a former Executive Pastor of Greenforest Community Baptist Church, Decatur, Georgia from 1999 to 2017, former pastor of Allen's Chapel Baptist Church, Parrottsville, Tennessee, and former assistant pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Whitesburg, Tennessee, passed on January 8, 2022.

Rev. Cody enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving tours of duty in Japan and South Korea, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Rev. Cody graduated from Walters State Community College with an Associate of Science Degree and The University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology & Religious Studies. In 1981, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Morehouse School of Religion with a Master of Divinity Degree.

Throughout his college and seminary, Rev. Cody was associated with many affiliations: Student Chaplain at Georgia Retardation Center and Instructor for International Teen Conference. He served one term as Moderator of Atlanta Metro Baptist Alliance Association and was appointed to sit on the Board of Trustees of the Developmental Disabilities Ministries. While pastoring Allen's Chapel, Rev. Cody served as Vice-President of Cocke County Ministerial Alliance.

Rev. Cody leaves to cherish his memory; wife, Minister Jeanette Treece Cody; son, Branton Cody; daughter, Tasha (Sean) Cody Hayes; granddaughter, Andersen Hayes; grandson, Archer Hayes; sister, Charlene (Gary) Kyle; brother-in-law, Charles (Diane) Treece; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends.

A public viewing was held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, from 10:00  to 11:00 a.m. at the Mausoleum Atrium in Hamblen Memory Gardens, Morristown, TN. A private committal service, with military honors followed

The Cody family was serviced by Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory in Conyers, Georgia, and Stubblefield Funeral Home in Morristown, Tennessee.
