By Pastor Roger Mills, AM Publisher / 7-1-2022

Seven years ago brother Rick Zimmerman preached his first sermon and was licensed to preach at Central Baptist Church, Kingsport, TN under the watchful eye of the Senior Pastor, Perry Stuckey.

In August 2021, Pastor Stuckey ask Bethel District's ordination council to convene at Central to examine Minister Zimmerman for ordination. The council of Moderator William Butler, Vice-Moderator Jesse Jones, Jr., Rev. Lester Lattany, and Rev. Frank Flowe recommended that Minister Zimmerman be ordained. Due to the pandemic, the ordination service was delayed until June 12, 2022.

On June 12, 2022, the moderator and pastors of the Bethel District Baptist Association along with the pastor, officers, and members of Central Baptist Church assembled at Central to ordain Minister Rick Zimmerman.

Before being ordained, Minister Zimmerman delivered his last sermon as Minister Zimmerman during the morning worship. His message was, “When God Puts You In The Right Place” from Ruth 2:8-14, NKJV, emphasizing four points: “We receive God’s direction, (2) God’s protection, (3) God’s affection, and (4) God’s satisfaction.

At 4:30 p.m., Bethel District Moderator, Rev. Dr. William Butler called host pastor, Pastor Perry Stuckey to the podium for the welcome, opening remarks, and call to worship. They were followed by the opening song from Friendship Baptist Church Choir, Johnson City, TN, and prayer by Pastor Billy Pearson.

Moderator Butler explained the ordination process and introduced the ordination council and their recommendation. Pastor James Scales introduced the messenger of the hour, Rev. Lester Lattany, senior pastor of Friendship Baptist Church. Before delivering the message Friendship Baptist Church Choir sang a hand-clapping spiritual that brought the congregation to their feet. Rev. Lattany's message was “Just Preach” from 2 Timothy 4:1-5.

The moment had arrived for Minister Zimmerman to receive his ordination instructions. Moderator Butler and Pastor Stuckey delivered the charge to the candidate and presented the candidate with a Ryrie Bible. Before taking possession of the Bible, Pastor Stuckey asked the candidate to place his left hand on the Bible and raise his right hand to a series of questions and respond “I will” or I do”, and the certificate of ordination was presented. Pastor Frank Flowe, senior pastor of Phillippi Baptist Church, Elizabethton, TN gave the charge to the church, followed by Pastor Stuckey giving a charge to the candidate's wife, Ida Machen Zimmerman.

The final process of the ordination was the laying on of hands by all ordained ministers present, with former Bethel District Moderator Lester Lattany praying the ordination prayer. Pastor Stuckey introduced the candidate as Pastor Rick Zimmerman. Pastor Zimmerman will now assume the duties of Pastor of Media Technology Ministry.

Pastor Zimmerman shared the day with his wife, parents, family from South Carolina, and his wife's family, the Machen’s.

Following the benediction, a reception was held at the V. O. Dobbins Community Center.
