Sweetwater, TN- Responding to the Call; From Minister to Pastor on Saturday, September 17, 2022, in Sweetwater, TN; Pastor Nicholas Weston Jones was ordained in front of family, friends, and a panel of mentors, including Pastor Anthony Cannon of Riverview Missionary Baptist Church, Elder John L. Underwood Sr. of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, and Reverend Vant Hardaway of Ministries International.

On Saturday, Riverview Missionary Baptist Church Choir began the service with a powerful rendition of I Came to Magnify the Lord. The council asked Pastor Jones various questions about Salvation, the call to Preach and Pastor, the authority of the Bible, Doctrinal Issues, and Church Stewardship. The council convened while Brother Deno Gaines sang, All Good Things. Once the council returned from the discussion, Pastor Anthony Cannon reported a positive assessment and gave a charge to Pastor Jones, followed by a charge to Pastor Jones and Sister Jones. Pastor Anthony Cannon preached from Acts 20: 28-32, “A Shepherds Gotta Do What a Shepherd's Gotta Do.” The installation concluded with remarks and acknowledgments.

On the morning of September 18, 2022, the Installation services began with Elder Marcus Underwood Sr., pastor of Greater Liberty Baptist Church, Lexington, KY, bringing the message titled “His Eye is on the Ship”, from Mark 6: 47-50.

The afternoon service was led by Riverview Missionary Baptist Church Choir and a solo brought forth by Sis. Lillie Madison -a powerful rendition of The Battle is Not Yours.  For the afternoon message, Reverend Vant Hardaway, Ministries International blessed us with a powerful message, “As I Was, So I Will Be”, Joshua 1:5. The services concluded with presentations and words of encouragement to Pastor and Sister Jones. Following the service, family and friends rejoiced with a reception.

Pastor Jones has been under the mentorship of Reverend Anthony Cannon and Reverend Dr. Lorrin Harris, pastor of Mother Love Baptist Church in Louisburg, TN during his ministry. Pastor Anthony Cannon spent over two months preparing Pastor Jones for the examination questions and was indeed a blessing during that time.

Pastor Jones had the privilege of having his childhood friend, Elder Marcus Underwood Sr. preach Sunday morning, and Elder John L. Underwood on the council, who baptized Jones as a child.

The Jones’ are excited about the work that God has called them to do at First Church. They are appreciative of the love, support, and thoughtfulness during this beautiful weekend of lifting up Jesus and the new role of pastoring First Church.
