In the Midst of:

How do we experience joy in the midst of turmoil when negative circumstances surround us from every direction? How do we experience the peace that surpasseth understanding in the midst of a bad situation? How do we experience patience in the midst of disappointment? How do we experience victory in the midst of a bad season? Jesus, he’s the Way, the Truth, and the Life!

Dwelling in this world, these questions certainly come to mind. When the storm engulfs us, we wonder why our joy, peace, patience, and ultimately our faith is put to the test. We often wonder why the test is hard when we try to do our best. Only God truly knows why these situations occur in our lives, but He certainly uses them to bring His grace, mercy, and blessings to us. Perhaps God allows us to experience troubles so that we may cling to Him ever more closely than ever before. Oftentimes the Lord refines us by taking us through the fire, so that Christ is perfected in us, and that we are all the more conformed in His image. It’s a trying of our faith to remind us that we are more than conquerors so that we can operate as victors in Christ Jesus (and not victims)!

No matter what happens, we can actually live victoriously on this side of heaven. Just focus on Jesus, who is our ever-present help in the time of trouble. Cast all of our cares on Him, and trust Him to direct us through adversity. It can be challenging to remain prayerful, to keep the faith when the enemy assails us, to meditate on His Word, and to give Him praise in every circumstance. One of the pitfalls I’ve observed is that it is too easy to fall into the pit of placing our focus on the problem rather than seeking a resolution with the Problem Solver, Jesus who is the answer!

He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life! Total and complete reliance on Him is absolutely necessary in the life of a Christian if we are to navigate what life throws at us. Jesus is an ever-present help in the time of trouble, but as for me (see Psalm 121:1, 2, 7}:

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.”
“My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”
“The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.”
It’s also good to be reminded that (see Romans 8:37):

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

When experiencing dark times, think about the Lord’s goodness in your life, and be joyful. Think on His Word and keep your mind stayed on Jesus, and He will give you peace. Think on the times it has benefited you to wait on the Lord to direct your path.

Think on it!
