MORRISTOWN, TN- The Reunion of the Ages serves as a voice for the legacy, history and pride of Morristown College.

It also serves to preserve, honor, and celebrate the history and impact of former black educational institutions in Hamblen county in view of the present and future need of the community.       

Each year scholarships are awarded to graduating High School students based on availability and academic achievement. The following awards were presented Sunday, August 8th at the Emancipation Day celebration at Fulton-Hill Park.

  • Kailey N. Hoffner (Jefferson Co), Carson Newman University, GPA-3.9, Career: Nursing, Francis Pressley Scholarship $1,000;
  • Kellen Harrison-Lee (Henderson NV), Eastern Nazarene College, GPA-3.0, Career: Criminal Justice, James A. Nichols Scholarship $500;
  • Isaiah Sherles (Jacksonville FL), University of Central Florida, GPA-3.6, Computer Engineering, Samuel Braziel Scholarship $500;
  • Daeshawn Harris (Morristown East) Walter State Community College, GPA-3.0, Career: Business, James A. Nichols Scholarship $500;
  • Kelly Fluker (Morristown West), TN Technical University, GPA-3.6, Career: Computer Engineering, Melissa Dukes Scholarship $500;
  • Noah Lovell (Morristown West), Middle Tennessee State University, GPA-3.4, Career: Journalism, James A. Nichols scholarship $500..

LEXINGTON, KY- Jocelyn Mills has been appointed Program Director of the Carter G. Woodson Preparatory (CGWPrep) Academy in Lexington, KY.

Jocelyn Mills is an educator with over 20 years of experience as a teacher, school leader, and education policymaker. Jocelyn has worked in nearly every setting of education: rural, urban, suburban, and policy; as well as elementary, middle, and high school levels. She is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher and was part of the 2003 Toyota Teacher Exchange Program, allowing her to study educational systems in various cities in Japan.

She completed the Educational Leadership Program at Western Kentucky University, earned her Master of Arts in Teaching from East Tennessee State University, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Kentucky. Most recently, Jocelyn received her Certificate in Urban School Leadership from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. Also, Jocelyn recently served as the Principal at the Barbara A. Sizemore Academy/Betty Shabazz International Charter School Network in Chicago, Illinois.

LEXINGTON, KY- The University of Kentucky has hired Morristown, TN native, Shawn Stewart as an Academic Advisor. He will begin advising students on September 1, 2021.

He graduated from Morristown West High School in 2004; ETSU with a Bachelor's Degree in 2010 in Human Services; and a Master's Degree in 2012 in Counseling!

Shawn is the son of Michelle Stewart.
