Celebrating Financial Literacy Month

April 2022

By David Reynolds, Tri-Cities Market President, First Horizon

Dogwood trees are blooming and clocks have sprung forward. While these are tell-tale signs of spring, these also mark April as financial literacy month. As a banking institution, financial literacy is incredibly important to us here at First Horizon. Our dedication to economic empowerment is year round, and demonstrated through our associates and our partnership with Operation Hope.

Operation Hope is a national nonprofit organization providing financial empowerment and economic education to youth as well as adults. We have two Hope Inside locations in the Tri-Cities and each are designed to help you on your journey to economic empowerment. These locations offer free workshops on topics such as banking for beginners, improving your credit score, and how to start your own small business.

Our bankers also dedicate their time and talents to teaching financial literacy. Here is a snapshot of some of First Horizon’s upcoming efforts to celebrate financial literacy month in our community:

  • In early April we will be teaching financial literacy classes at the Langston Center with Kingsport Operation Hope Counselor Alan Pickle.
  • On April 20 we will be teaching financial literacy classes at the Mark V. Jordan Multicultural Center for ETSU students.
  • In conjunction with the American Bankers Association, First Horizon associates will teach financial literacy curriculum to mark Teach Children To Save Day on April 28. The sessions will be at local Boys & Girls Clubs and hopefully will instill a lifelong interest in financial literacy amongst the students.

If you would like to learn more about financial literacy or how to improve your financial wellbeing, stop by your local First Horizon banking center or visit our website today. .

*This is part of a new monthly series about financial literacy, brought to you by First Horizon.
