Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day
June 2022

Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Ephesians 6:4 “And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

To be a good dad, simply look to God our heavenly Father and His attributes along with other noteworthy dads of the Bible and be inspired to continue the good work. Your heavenly Father is a beautiful example of a loving father that earthly dads today can emulate, as He has given you the roadmap through His word and spirit to empower you as a parent. In these turbulent times when the world rejects the ways of the Lord, it is imperative to cling to God’s word in directing your life and those entrusted to you.

Like fathers today, even some patriarchal fathers of the Old Testament struggled with parenting, such as favoring one child over another the way Isaac did in preferring his son Esau. This still goes on today, and it ought not to be for it’s not God’s will for parents to show favoritism. Jacob had to flee to keep himself from being killed by his own twin brother, Esau. The lesson here is, don’t show favoritism, because it is a setup to breed jealousy among siblings and negatively impact future children.

For a father, having an obedient relationship with God and His Word plays such an important part and is necessary in order to glean the invaluable biblical instructions there for you to impart to your children. Reliance on the word is imperative to aptly raise a family, especially in these turbulent times. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” (see Psalm 37:23)

A father should be loving and patient toward his children just as our heavenly Father is toward you. God delights in providing for His children, and so does a godly father. Just like God, a dad also desires the best for his family too. Dads prayerfully petition the Lord on behalf of their children. He appointed dads to be the spiritual head of their families. So, in order to lead a family successfully, a father is a warrior who fights for his family’s spiritual wellbeing through prayer. This sets a positive example before your children of your reliance and dependence on allowing the Lord to lead you as you lead your family.

In conclusion, the best legacy a good father can leave his children is to teach them that what they do for Christ is the only thing that matters in this life. Happy Father’s Day to all men who have ever loved and nurtured a child! And a special shoutout to my own awesome dad, JE Hampton, for being a wonderful dad to me and my brothers, and God bless you and all the dads among us!
